I'm also becoming an expert on international affairs.

I suppose I should update this.

AUTUMN IS HERE!! It hasn't quite hit me yet, since the weather has still been summery, but we have the Fall line out at work and I think it's just beautiful. Even the packaging on the Anniversary Blend is beautiful. Whoever designs the merchandise is really good. I'm really happy it's been raining lately too. I'm hoping it saves the color in the remaining leaves at Hanover so when I come down for Homecoming it'll be gorgious. Autumn at Hanover is the best -- well, without the actual school that is. hehe. It's the real reason I came there. The first time I visited, it was a particularly enchanting Autumn; the leaves were swirling all about the car as we drove toward campus -- like a sleek car commercial -- and I fell in love, before even seeing the campus. I love almost everything about Autumn: the leaves (of course), on the trees, on the ground, the way they make leaf-stenciled imprints on the pavement, the way they swirl about, the sound of crunching beneath your feet, making ginourmous piles of them and jumping!; I love cider; the crisp weather that makes you feel alive; pumpkin-flavored foods and drinks; sweaters, scarves, boots, hats -- almost all autumnal clothing (in fact, I'm dying for some new Fall clothes). Whenever I imagine myself falling in love, it's almost always in the Fall, in a woodsy area, with me wearing impeccably good-looking Fall clothes. Of course, as Risti said when discussing this subject on a previous day, "no one imagines themselves looking like crap" in their fantasies. haha. So true. I'd like to have at least one amazing-looking Fall outfit before I come to Hanover so I can live out this fantasy. Well, perhaps without the actual falling in love part, since everyone is younger than me now. ha.

I just put on freshly-removed-from-the-dryer pants, and it's one the most amazing feelings ever! I don't know why I've never done it before.

Well, I meant to have an actual update, but since I got distracted on my Autumn rant and I have to get ready for work, I'll save it for later.

The phone rang last night, saying it was St. Francis. I gave it to my dad because I thought it would have something to do with Evan, even though it was 9:00 at night. It was David, saying he'd been in a car accident the day before. He's okay, but he's probably going to have a few months of recovery.

Car accidents are upsetting to me, considering my family history. Plus, I'm used to being able to visit people when they're in the hospital, but he's in Connecticut. I had bad dreams last night and was happy to go to work today for distraction.

This past weekend I went to Hanover for the third visit of the summer -- this time for an InS Reunion (without the professors). Our department is small and puts you under a lot of stress, but that has really made the majors grow close to each other. Who could ask for better partners in crime? SSJ was home from her Fulbright experience in Germany, and I hadn't seen Benjamin since Istanbul, so it was a good time to meet up. So SSJ, Patty, and I headed down to HC to crash with Benjamin.

We hung out at MCAT a lot, ran into Kate and Katie, saw Brigid, went to Usch and Nick's for dinner and drinks Saturday night, and generally wasted away the few days. It was really refreshing to see them all again. No one can make me laugh as much as they can, and goodness knows we've all needed some laughter lately.

I also briefly saw Luke and Aastik on their way to some RAing, but I feel bad because I couldn't stop at the time to chat. Sorry! I'll be down during the school year though for sure. When everyone finally moves down it's going to be hard to stay away -- although I really don't want to be THAT alumus who lives at Hanover without actually living at Hanover.

I'm pretty sure all my housesitting money was stolen straight out of my wallet because I can't find it anywhere. If it was stolen the way I think it was it makes me slightly nervous because it means someone knows I'm in this house by myself. Why do I even bother? I'm so tired of every door I try being slammed in my face.

Last night the kitty tried to seduce me. Disturbing.

Also, I'm sitting here trying to decide if  I should bring the dogs inside from the rain. It hasn't been raining hard, the dogs have a lot of room in the backyard, and they have a lot of big evergreen trees and their dog house for shelter. So it seems okay to me. I mean, they are dogs after all. But it just occurred to me that I don't know the standard procedure for handling such an issue. Since Washington (where the house owners are) is three hours ahead it's too early to call to ask.

It's struck me since graduating that there are a lot of small, but nevertheless important, details about generally living life of which I am surprisingly unaware of the proper answer. For example, I'm completely ignorant on how to maintain cars. I'm just as clueless about the proper steps to solve any problem under the hood of a car as am about an elaborate algebraic problem (actually I could probably handle the algebraic problem better, even though I haven't done any real math in years). Also, I'm mostly clueless as to the prices of food in grocery stores. I know how much it should cost me to buy a weeks worth of food from living one summer in an apartment, but other than that I don't know anything. Apartments are another issue too. I think I'm savvy enough to know what a good and bad apartment looks like and what to check for, but I have no knowledge of signing leases or what is even standard in them. It's amazing to me the amount of unapplicable knowledge a person can have (at least for daily situations) while being clueless about common sense issues.
